Shade listened intently at the mention of a secret. He smiled as said secret was revealed. He hadn't seem much of her soft side, she still got angry with him and glared at him like she did before they got together. Their dynamic hadn't changed much since they started dating, they still argued and taunted each other, it was just all done with a more loving intention now.
"And don't worry I won't tell her" he said.

River chuckled.
"She'd probably hit me over the head if she heard I told you that. She likes to think she looks tough." River shook her head and smiled at the thought. Then she looked at Shade and blinked.
"So when do you think they'll be back?" She asked.

Shade nodded his agreement. "She's hit me a few times when I commented on her sweet moments" he said.
"Hopefully soon" Shade said. "But with Rabbit being the target, who knows" he added.

River sighed, nodding. She hated waiting - especially when it came to her sister. Shadow was the type to take stupid risks sometimes to protect those important to her. River hated worrying that one day her sister wouldn't come home. Stupid Rabbit. She thought angrily.
"Well in the meantime," River said with a sigh, "How about a training session?"

Shade contemplated the idea. He was having a lot of fun just flying around, glad for the freedom, but he could go for training, and hopefully not hurt River, or he would end up in the hospital wing. "Sure, sounds good" he replied.

"Alrighty," River said with a smile. She walked over to one of the weapons rooms and came back with two lean staffs. She threw one to Shade and smirked.
"Some one-on-one combat sound good?" She challenged, twirling the staff easily in her hand.

Shade watched as she walked to the weapons room and came back with two lean staffs. He groaned inwardly, fighting with weapons wasn't really his style. He caught the staff she threw at him with ease. He studied it for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, sounds good to me" he replied.

River could sense his reluctance. It was good that he wasn't into it, though. Practicing was always important, especially at things one wasn't so good at. She twirled her staff around her body once, passing it from hand to hand behind her back, then moved forward to swipe at Shade's left shoulder.

Shade watched River's movements carefully, his yellow gaze was calculating. He noticed her going for his left shoulder, and blocked the shot with his staff. He then quickly swung towards her right leg, hoping to knock her off balance.

River leaped into the air when she saw the staff going for her leg, darting to the side. She flicked her wrists and aimed a swift blow at the bottom of his ribcage, hoping to knock the breath from him if she hit in the right spot.

Shade cursed as she jumped to avoid his shot. He felt the staff connect with his ribs, his breath being forced from his lungs. He took a deep breaths to try to gather air back in his lungs.

River twirled her staff over her head and then took a step back. She hoped to give Shade a moment to recover himself so that he could be prepared to fight yet again.

Shade was thankful that River backed off for a moment to allow him to catch his breath. He finally felt the air returning to him as he took deep breaths. He looked up at River and nodded, signalling he was ready. He lunged with a strike aimed at her midsection.

River flicked her staff down to parry off his move. But Shade was stronger so her own staff hit her in the side. She slipped to the side, readying herself for another attack, trying to get her wind back.

Shade smiled a bit at the successful hit. He backed up a bit, allowing her to catch her breath, like she did for him. He knew that shots to the chest and stomach hurt the most.
