"Great" Alana said, smiling brightly. It was probably a good idea to head back to the base soon, they could talk a little more freely then. "Well we could always head back soon" she said "I haven't seen anyone in the few days I've been here."

Daman nodded.
"Yeah, I haven't spotted much activity, either. I was actually going to book a plane to Texas tonight. Then I fly back to the base over some deserts I know well." He thought that maybe this time he might tag along on a plane ride with Alana. He didn't often have nice people to travel with. Let alone someone beautiful and not affected by his power.

"Do you mind if I join you?" Alana asked. It would be nice to have company on her trip for once. She found flights rather boring when she was alone. She really just wanted to hop on a plane with Daman and get back to the base as soon as possible.

"That would be fine," Daman replied. "I'd have to find us a plane that gets closer, since I can't carry people far when I fly." He grinned slightly and winked at Alana. He would have to figure out which planes came into Phoenix and how to get on them without being traceable. He supposed Alana would be better at that, since she was more used to traveling via mechanical transportation.

"I can handle that" Alana said. "I usually take the same plane back to a city about an hour from Pheonix, then either bus it or take a train, depending on the time of day" she explained. She had planned the route on her very first mission to New York and had used it, without fail, every time since.

Daman nodded.
"Okay, sounds good." He checked his watch and exhaled. "We should probably get a move on if we want to catch a decent flight. Come on!" He began walking towards the airport, not letting go of Alana's hand.

"Good idea" Alana said. She followed Daman, content to let him take the lead. She couldn't wait until they were back in Pheonix.

OOC: Two Days Later, at Rebel Base Daman sat awake, staring at the ceiling of his room. He lifted his hand over his hand and stared at it, thinking of the girl he had met in New York, the hours they had spent together on the plane ride, and then the bus. He had been so busy afterwards that they hadn't been able to spend any more time together. He was surprised at how hard it could be to find someone in the rebel base. Tails probably had noticed his distraction, but so far the kid hadn't asked questions. Which Daman was grateful for. Thoughts churned in his head like pebbles in a whirlpool, tossing about with no apparent purpose or destination. Clenching his hand into a fist, Daman slipped off his bed and began riffling around his drawers for a shirt. He left his sweatpants on and walked out of the room to wander the passages, as he sometimes did when sleep evaded him. He wasn't wearing his usual long-sleeved shirt, jacket, and thick wrappings. It felt good to wander the cool caves in nothing but a shirt and some sweats. He wasn't wearing shoes, either, and the cool stone on the soles of his feet made him sigh with contentment. His white wings were tucked closely to the side of his body, nearly imperceptible from certain angles in the dim light. Daman slipped out into the open air, into a little crook in the cliffside he liked to visit. It was well within the shields of the psychic mutants and allowed for a breathtaking view of the canyons. Daman sat down at the edge of the cliff and looked out over the moonlit canyons. A sigh escaped his lips and his rocked his leg back and forth, resting his palms against the cool stone as he reveled in the crisp night air.

Tails stirred awake when he heard the door to the room open. He looked over just in time to see Daman leaving. He sighed, his friend had been distant and distracted since he got back from New York. He hadn't really talked to his friend since his return, Daman had been spending a lot of time wandering the base. Tails felt like he was being avoided and it hurt.

A blonde girl was sitting at the desk in her room. Blue eyes were fixed on the notebook in front of her, and the person taking shape on the page. Alana had been thinking about Daman ever since they parted to go to their own rooms. She had spent the last two days looking for him and had yet to find him. "Hopefully I'll see him soon" she said to herself.

Daman stretched his wings out and let out a soft sigh. The night air pulled at his feathers, and the feeling was marvelous. An exhilarating feeling crept over him, the desire deep inside his gut to spread his wings and fly. Daman stood and allowed his primary feathers to adjust to the direction of the wind. Then he launched himself off the cliff and dived down, letting his body feel the thrill of falling before he stretched out his wings and caught an updraft. Spiraling upwards, he thrust his wings down and gained height, allowing himself to spin through the air like a hawk, majestic and smooth. He had once been a clumsy flyer, back when he had first left the orphanage. But now he flew with the grace of a natural winged animal, his legs and arms bending with the wind and his wings. After a few minutes he ascended with harsh downstrokes, and alighted on the shelf once more. His muscles felt wonderfully tired and strained after the flight, and Daman let out a contented sigh as he looked back out at the cool night, stretching his arm and shoulder muscles as he did so.

Tails lay in bed staring up at the ceiling. He was thinking about Daman and where he could've disappeared too. He just wanted to know what was going on with his friend and why he was avoiding him. He felt so alone without his friend around, he was so excited when Daman came back. The feeling of loneliness didn't disappear though, it lingered.

Daman sighed and moved to go inside the base. It was about time he got back. Even the cool insides of the base seemed warm after his exhilarating flight, and Daman had the urge to go back out and just fly. Fly until he was far away from his problems. But that feeling was a part of his mutation, probably. An instinct to escape pain. It had served him once before, to bring him here. But now he had long put it to rest.
Daman moved through the tunnels slowly, enjoying the cool and the quiet. He made hardly a sound in his bare feet.

Alana sighed and closed her sketchbook. She tucked it away in the drawer of her desk before standing up. She stretched her muscles before putting on a sweater. She slipped on shoes and walked out of her room into the tunnels. She wasn't getting any sleep anytime soon, so she thought she'd go out for a walk.
**------------------------------------------------**
Tails sighed before throwing his covers off. He pulled on some long pants, a long sleeve shirt and shoes. He walked to the door and took a deep breath before stepping out into the hallway. He scanned the hallway before beginning to search for Daman.
