Circe stood with one of the doctors, her pale face, framed by fiery red locks of hair, looking strained in the dim lighting. It was difficult to see young mutants being injured, especially in circumstances like these.
"Will their injuries heal?" She demanded of the doctor, feeling anxious for the two teenagers lying behind curtains in the large cavern. The doctor's brows furrowed slightly, puckering in between as he looked down at the floor.
"We are not sure. The break was very bad... If you hadn't healed the marrow already I would be doubtful of recovery. But now, it seems as though they have hope of improving. Still, these are strange injuries." Circe nodded slightly. She sensed someone behind her in that way that one did when they'd lived long enough alone. Glancing over her shoulder, Circe saw one of the injured mutant's sister walking into the hospital wing, her eyes wide with fear and concern.
"Circe!" She said, her voice shaking. "Someone said you brought Shadow and Rabbit back with you...?"
"They're resting." Circe replied solemnly. River hesitated, looking uncertain.
"Is she... are they alright?" Circe was silent, her lips pressed together tightly. The look on the girl's face made the woman's heart ache, but she could not lie to River about her sister's condition. With the doctors uncertain of her recovery, it would be a lie to assure her sister that everything was fine.

Shade was speed walking through the halls of the order, he had heard that Shadow was back and in the hospital wing. Mutants were avoiding him more than usual, they could tell he was on a mission. He finally reached the hospital wing and steeled his nerves before entering. He noticed that Circe and River were there. "Is Shadow alright?" he asked, worried.

Circe glanced at the newcomer - Shade. She knew that he was a part of Shadow's squad - that, and he was dating the girl. Or so the rumors had stated. The mutant leader wished she could deliver better news to Shadow's concerned sister and boyfriend.
"The bones in her arm were shattered," Circe replied evenly. "The doctors are uncertain whether they will heal or not, but for now I've done all I can to help." The woman said as calmly as she could. River's face fell as she heard the leader's words, and she could barely repress the instinct to run to her sister's side.

Shade felt his heart drop and rage building. He had let her go off on the mission alone and she had gotten hurt. He was going to painfully torture whoever injured his girlfriend. He knew his yellow eyes were burning with rage and showing concern.
"Can I go see her?" he asked. He wanted to be at her side as soon as possible. He also wanted to find out who did it and rip their life force away bit by bit.

Circe studied the boy's face. He seemed enraged, which was not surprising she supposed. But it was better not to let him know of the man who had injured Shadow. His powers seemed to be dangerous, if Falling Star's briefing had been any indication.
"She is resting, but you may go to her side." The leader said. River needed no more bidding. She moved towards the curtain marked with her sister's mutant name. Pushing her way through it, River froze when she saw Shadow. Her sister lay with her eyes closed, her dark hair spilling over the pale skin of her shoulders like thick threads of rich silk. Her arm was resting by her side, held by several metal splinters. The skin was a variety of shades, from an ill looking green to a deep purplish-blue. River's hand flew to her mouth and she choked back the urge to throw up.

Shade nodded to Circe before floowing River to Shadow's side. The sight that awaited him made his anger flare, and his hands glow. He couldn't believe his beautiful girlfriend looked so pale and broken. He felt the need to murder whoever did this grow stronger.
His yellow eyes studied the broken and bruised arm and wished that he could heal her somehow. He slowly approached her good side, reaching out for her hand. He stopped momentarily at the sight of his glowing hand, he quickly reeled in his life force before grasping her hand. "Please wake up soon" he whispered "I need to know you're okay." He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

River sat down beside Shade. She looked at her sister's face and wondered if she would be okay. Tears pricked at the girl's eyes, surprising her. She rarely cried.
"Please wake up soon," River whispered, "Please." Her sister lay still for a few moments. Then her eyes opened slowly, turning to River and Shade with a confused expression on her face.
"What's going on?" Shadow asked weakly. River restrained herself, though it was difficult not to shout with joy and relief to see her sister awake.

Shade felt a sense of relief wash over him when Shadow regained conciousness. "Are you okay? How do you feel?" he questioned rapidly. He knew he should respond to her question but he needed to know that she felt okay first. Her health was the most important thing to him right now.

Shadow's brows creased slightly as she tried to sit up. A massive shock seemed to vibrate down her arm, like a flash of lightning jolting down her bones. She lay back immediately, wincing.
"Pretty injured, I guess, though I'm not sure I remember how that happened." Thinking back, Shadow remembered the fight in the alley but couldn't quite remember when she'd been ousted from the brawl. All she could recall was a fierce pain running up and down her arm, her own screaming in her ears, and then nothing.
