Name: Daman Walker
Mutant Name: Scorch
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: Mutant
Ranking: Scout
Loyalties: Rebellion
Description:
Daman is a Russian with tan skin and dark brown hair that hangs loosely in his eyes. He’s on the tall side of average height, and his build is more naturally thin than athletic. He has thin, cat-shaped black eyes and an angular grim-looking face. He usually wears black jackets and a strange black-and-white striped bandana around his neck. He has long white wings that are difficult to hide, since they’re nearly two-and-a-half times his height. He wears a size 10 shoe, and almost always wears black gloves.
Powers:
Daman has white wings that he can use to fly. But he also has heightened senses. He can see for miles, hear anything within one hundred miles, and he has a keen sense of smell. Unfortunately his sense of “touch” also seems affected, and he has the ability to sear anything he touches (although it’s more like searing with light than fire). He has difficulty controlling his powers, so he never touches anyone if he can help it.
Personality:
Daman is very withdrawn. He is polite and while he’s naïve he’s also very sweet. His greatest fault is his shyness and aversion to people, which mostly stems from his powers. He doesn’t mind talking to fellow mutants, but he is always afraid of getting close to people. Daman is also slow to form relationships, since he’s rather awkward and has a difficult time trusting people. He can be rather prickly at times, and absolutely hates being asked questions. If someone asks him anything (no matter how trivial) he always responds with another question to annoy them and get them to leave him alone.
History:
Daman was born in Russia and abandoned at an orphanage at an early age, due to the little white wings he had been born with. Growing up in the orphanage was difficult. He was abused very harshly, and slowly began to feel that everyone hated him. That is, until he met Nikki. Nikki was a more recently orphaned girl, and was eight years old just like him. She was also a mutant, and had the power to grow things like plants. The two became close friends, and Daman was happy for the first time in his life. The head mistress of the orphanage noticed Nikki’s unique powers and forced her to grow food that they could sell. When Nikki couldn’t produce fast enough to the woman’s satisfaction, she would be beaten harshly and left without food or water until she could do better. Daman would always come to her rescue and smuggle her something to eat and just keep her company. The years passed on slowly, but they supported each other. “We’ll run away some day,” Daman would promise. “I’ll take you to a good place.” Nikki would always looked up at him with a tired smile and say “Really? I hope it’s soon, Daman. I hope you will take me away soon.” But it was never to be. On Nikki’s fourteenth birthday she succumbed to the illness her weak state had brought on, leaving Daman alone in the world. He was so distraught, he refused to do anything for the head mistress, and instead hid himself away in his room. The woman that he blamed for his friend’s death tried to force him to work by beating him, and that’s when his most dangerous power – the power to burn those he touched – emerged. He left the lady cringing in pain and ran away, flying until he couldn’t fly any longer. Daman collapsed in a pile of ropes on a large steam vessel, which carried him all the way to America. He traveled for two years and joined the Rebellion when a scout found him. He has lived there ever since.
