Name: Eliza Mari Éclair
Mutant/Code Name: Genesis
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Species: Mutant
Ranking/Position: Loner
Loyalties: None
Description:
Eliza is 5’7” tall, wears a size 9 ½ shoe, and has very thick, choppily layered brunette hair. Her appearance is considered pretty normal. She has a well-defined jaw that is considered somewhere in between square and heart-shaped and is very mature. Her skin is usually relatively pale, mostly because she doesn’t like heat or sun much. She always wears her grey hoodie, no matter what the weather is like. Other than that she likes to wear a white camisole dark-tinted jeans with little rips and tears in them. Eliza never wears makeup or jewelry, except maybe for a few silly bands around her wrist. She has very striking eyes surrounding by thick lashes. The color can only be described as amethyst purple, which is the only sign that she’s somewhat different from other people – at least the only sign she can’t hide. Eliza has two purple birthmarks on her shoulder blades/back. They’re shaped like little wings and are surprisingly detailed, almost to the point of absurdity. Anyone who saw them would almost be convinced they were either real or very well done tattoos.
Abilities/Talents:
Eliza has the ability to manipulate thoughts and feelings. She can also hypnotize people to do whatever she wants, and later they won’t remember a thing. She can’t read thoughts, but she can understand feelings, so she often has a strange sort of understanding with those around her. This can work to help her sympathize or could be potentially bad for someone else. Eliza can use this link to “speak”, in a way, with animals. Her powers extend to them, so she could control them if she felt like it – in fact, that’s quite a bit easier than manipulating people – but she prefers not to do that. Eliza’s birthmarks can actually transform into real wings that resemble those of a raven (only perhaps a bit more purple). She can fly pretty well, but tends not to since it draws a lot of attention.
Personality:
Eliza is quiet and keeps mostly to herself. She doesn’t need others to feel loved or happy, but she tends to attach herself to one or two good friends. She’s intelligent, and prefers deep conversations to frivolous, empty ones. Eliza also has a habit of over-analyzing everything. But when it comes to action and survival, she’s instinctively very good at moving and learning how to adapt. She’s very creative, and likes to express herself, though she’s more concerned about what she thinks about herself than what others think. Eliza never swears since she thinks that it shows a lack of vocabulary, and is morally a very upright person. She fervently believes that power should be used for self defense or for the greater good, and rarely uses it for her own gain. She hates the lifestyle she’s forced to live, but she only ever complains to her cat, Ocean. She’s what could be called a pessimistic optimist, and while she is amused by sarcasm, she’s not all that sarcastic herself. Eliza also has no sense of humor, but she tries to make up for it by laughing at people’s jokes even if she doesn’t find them funny.
History:
Eliza Éclair was born to Shaun Porter and Heather Éclair. Her father was a politician that spoke out against mutant rights. He believed that mutants were an abomination, and a danger to society. The only person who could ever get him to shut up on the subject was Eliza’s mother, Heather, who was actually Shaun’s secretary. Eliza’s mother found out she was pregnant when her lover was running for Representative of Minnesota. She decided that it would be best to drop out of his life after that, to avoid scandal. Therefore she left him and didn’t tell him about their daughter. Five years later, Heather died in a car accident, leaving Eliza with no next of kin. Her will stated the name of Eliza’s father, and a plea that he would take care of her in the event of her death. Shaun was shocked, to say the least. He’d never imagined the woman he had loved had left him because of a baby. Eliza’s father took her in without a single thought of doing otherwise. He noticed her birthmark right away. Heather had left journals about her apartment that he read, and she’d noticed how they would change sometimes. “They seem to be growing bigger” she would say. Shaun kept track of this, and noticed that it was true. The mark would grow and become more defined as the girl aged. By the time she was eight, she had what looked like real wing tattoos on her shoulders. He began to grow concerned and consulted a dermatologist about it. In the end, Eliza was taken to a scientist who studied the makeup of her skin cells. He told her father that they seemed to be almost like the makeup of a bird’s cells, but that they were compressed somehow into the form of a mark. It was around this time that Eliza began “talking” with the dog her dad owned. He noticed it and grew panicked, telling Eliza not to act strangely. “But the doggie wants me to talk” she would say, looking up at him with big innocent eyes, “He is lonely.” When she was ten, her wings began to peel off of her skin and unfurl, becoming almost entirely like bird wings, only smoother like butterfly wings with bird looks. By this time, her father was entirely afraid of her. He didn’t believe that he was really her father. Shaun had tests done, but each one told him that she was his daughter. He asked a surgeon to remove the wings, and they tried to cut them off of her while they were unfurled. Eliza screamed and begged them to stop, and then her ability to manipulate emerged. She hypnotized them in her panic and made them let her go. Then she made her father take her home and locked herself in her room for weeks. Whenever someone tried to take her out, she’d hypnotize them and convince them to leave. Her father became so terrified of her he moved into a different house, leaving her alone there. She spent her eleventh and twelfth birthdays alone in that frightening place. Then Hunters showed up, led by her father. She managed to slip away and began living on the streets. She rummaged in garbage cans and tried to scrape up a living at the age of 12. The years passed slowly. Eliza had many more encounters, close calls, and worked hard to make a living on her own. She could never live a normal life, so she made it a point to be almost a ghost – appear one place, disappear within hours. This was how she lived, alone, for years. It was when she turned 17 that she finally found a friend when she rescued a little Technicolor-eyed kitten from a shelter. She named the kitten Ocean, and the two became close friends and go everywhere together now.
