Tails smiled at Crucible. Even though his life hadn't been ideal by any means, he was, for the most part, happy. He had a couple friends, even if his best friend had been hanging out with that girl more often than him. He had Crucible to talk to now so it wasn't as bad. "Can you read me another story?" he asked.

Crucible looked at Tails and a small smile formed at the corners of his mouth. He was pleased by the kid's genuine enthusiasm. There were too many mutants who had allowed bitterness to settle in their hearts and rob them of their wonder. Children, too. Maybe especially children. And that was the ultimate tragedy, Crucible had long ago decided. His own childhood had been marred and left barren because of his powers. But he would not give up trying to see something in the world. What was the point of living if one had no hope, no reason to wake up and think and feel?
"Sure," Crucible said finally. "Reading is my favorite pastime, after all."

Tails grinned at his friend. He finally felt relaxed after everything that had happened. Something about being around Crucible in the library helped calm him, and he was sure it wasn't just his friends powers. "What are you going to read now?" he asked.

Crucible looked at the shelves of books and walked over to one he knew contained many good stories. He began rifling through the titles, musing over whether or not Tails would like any of them.
"What sounds interesting to you? Huck Finn maybe? There's also a copy of A Christmas Carol, though it's kind of past the season for that." Crucible, in his eagerness and passion for books, sounded less mechanical than he normally did. His voice was more animated, and his expression lightened as he looked through the titles on the shelves.

Tails smiled. He was glad that Crucible seemed to be happier than usual. He shrugged in response. "I'm not picky, you can choose something you like" he replied.
