Shadow glared at the wall ahead of her for a moment longer and then sighed.
"Whatever," she said, "Let's just play chess or something." She muttered, not wanting to use the air hockey table at all. She had known too many mutants that abused their powers, and one too many that couldn't control hers, to even be able to stomach taking advantage of anyone.

Shade's smirk fell from his lips, replaced by a defeated look. "Okay, chess is fine" he said, even though he was looking forward to air hockey. He mentally kicked himslef for being such an idiot, I always ruin everything he thought to himself.

Shadow made her way to the chess table, which was usually empty. She sat herself down and began organizing the white pieces, her cheek resting in her free hand. She stared at the board, remembering the past, when she had been trying to hide her sister from Rouges that were serving the humans for their own benefits. The thought made her more angry, so she tried to suppress her memories.

Shade followed her over to the almost always empty chess table. He selected the black pieces and set them up carefully. "So how have you been?" he asked, trying to break the uncomfortable silence.

Shadow glanced up at him.
"Fine," she replied. "How about yourself?" She had already set her pieces up, so she sat back and waited for Shade to finish before she made the first move.

Shade finished setting up his pieces and looked up at Shadow with his yellow gaze. "I've been better" he said. He sat bat and waited for Shadow to make her move. Well I'm going to lose, I suck at this game he thought to himself.

Shadow sighed and moved a pawn forward lazily. She always used the same wall-formation in the beginning of a game, since it was the strongest possible defense against an opponent. It may be predictable if she played against someone more than once, but it was a difficult move to out-manuver anyways, so she wasn't very concerned.
"So why is that?" Shadow asked, glancing up at him after she'd moved, "Anything happen?"

Shade picked a pawn at random and moved it forward. He knew he was going to lose anyway, so he didn't really try.
Shade froze like a deer in headlights at Shadow's question. Qucik think of something he thought to himself. "Um... well I..." he trailed off, wanting to finish with 'upset with someone I like.'

Shadow looked at him skeptically and then moved another pawn forward one space.
"If you don't want to tell me you don't have to. I'm not an interrogator or anything." Shadow muttered as she planted her chin back in the palm of her hand.

Shade moved another one of his pawns up two spaces.
"It's not that I don't want to, I don't know how to" Shade said. He noticed her posture and knew that he screwed up again.

Shadow glanced up at him.
"Oh, so it's one of those weird guy things? Or is it something to do with a girl?" Shadow smirked slightly, finding it funny that Shade could actually be embarrassed about something like a crush. But then, he probably didn't have a crush. Even so, she still liked to make fun of him when she could.

Shade smiled sheepishly at her. "It's something to do with a girl" he replied. He lowered his eyes to the table, praying she didn't notice the blush on his cheeks.

Shadow's eyebrows rose a few inches.
"Oh?" She said with a teasing smile on her face, "So you've finally got a little crush, huh? I guess that's reason to mope. Who is it? Do I know her?" Shadow asked eagerly, wondering why Shade looked so embarrassed about it. I guess he's not used to talking about stuff like this. Shadow mused.

Shade felt his face heat up even more. It's you, has been for a while he said to himself. "You definately know her" he said, looking up at her through his fringe. I thought I was being obvious he thought to himself.

Shadow tipped her head to one side.
"Definitely, huh?" She mused, considering who it could be. She supposed he might mean her friend Ash. But Ash was dating some other guy, wasn't she? The guy that had "rescued" her back in Kansas or whatever? He couldn't mean River, could he? Shadow moved another pawn and glanced up at Shade sharply, wondering if he could possibly have a crush on her younger sister. No. She told herself, not liking the feelings that rose up in her gut. That can't be what he means.
