Shadow glanced up at him.
"What does that entail?" She asked. In truth, Shadow was dying to just throw away her caution and say heck yes! but she was still insecure. She had no idea what to expect out of a relationship. Her thoughts were so distracting. She just hoped that Shade wasn't aware of her discomfort. Or if he was he wasn't taking it personally.

Shade noticed Shadow's nervousness. He felt bad for causing it, and was starting to wish he'd just kept his mouth shut.
He thought about her question, wondering the same thing. "Just normal couple things, like holding hands and stuff" he said, not sure what else to say.

Shadow looked down at the chessboard, slowly moving her rook two spaces. She left her hand in place, though, as if she'd frozen. Just holding hands...? She thought, not liking where her thoughts were going.
"So... you don't..." The words died on her lips. Blushing, Shadow sat back and crossed her arms over her chest, embarrassed by her own thoughts.

Shade watched as she moved her rook, and he slid a pawn forward. He studied her expression, noticing the thoughtful look on her face. He watched as she crossed her arms and leaned back. "Don't what?" he asked, confused.

Shadow's blush deepened and she quickly moved her knight forward. It would cost her the piece if he moved his bishop to take the knight, but she'd be able to take his bishop and clear a path towards his king is he did.
"Well... you wouldn't want to... you know..." She stammered uncomfortably. He's a teenage boy... She told herself sternly. Why wouldn't he want to? She peeked up at him nervously to see if he'd gotten the hint.

Shade looked at the board, calculating his moves. He knew the obvious one would be to take her knight, be he opted for taking one of her pawns.
Shade studied her face again, noticing the nervousness in her gaze. It took him a few minutes but he finally got what she meant. "I said normal coupls stuff, didn't I?" he asked. "And I believe that falls under that" he said.

Shadow thought she probably resembled a tomato about now. Shrugging her shoulders, she almost knocked one of her pieces over moving her remaining bishop.
"It's just... It's not like I don't want to... I just can't... imagine myself..." She felt as if her face was on fire. Leaning forward, she buried her face in her hands. "I'm a wreck." She muttered miserably.

Shade thought Shadow's blushing face was adorable. He watched as she fumbled her chess piece a little, smiling slightly, knowing that he got her flustered.
"Don't worry" he said "we'll take it one step at a time, at your pace." He had no intention of making her uncomfortable.

Shadow looked back up at Shade, her eyes wide.
"Really? You're... okay with that?" She asked, feeling her heart stutter in her chest. She really did like Shade... It was possible that she even loved him, though she wasn't quite sure of the difference yet. Maybe some day I won't mind doing stuff like that with him... She thought, smiling shyly at him.

"Of course" he replied "I just want you to feel comfortable." Shade shot her a smile of his own. His yellow gaze was locked with hers, showing the truth behind his words.

Shadow's smile lit up her face and made her grey-blue eyes sparkle.
"I'd be honored to be your girlfriend." She said at last, feeling so happy the words she'd said had almost seemed to choke her. Her throat almost felt swollen, and she thought she might just be hyperventilating.

Shade's smile brightened further, seeing the absolute happiness on Shadow's face. He didn't know how to respond to what she said, so he reached over and grasped her hand is his. He felt unexplainable warmth course through his body at her agreement.

Shadow had touched Shade before, many times. But this touch was different. It wasn't the touch of a comrade or a friend. It was the touch of a lover. The difference may have seemed trivial in thought, but in feeling it was more than words could express. Shadow looked up into his yellow eyes and couldn't help from smiling. She leaned forward over the table, her eyebrows rising slightly.
"Hey, Shade. Come closer, I have something to tell you." She said in a secretive voice.

Shade could feel the difference in this touch, they'd held hands before, running from hunters and humans, but this was different. He watched as she leaned closer, and he listened as she spoke. He leaned forward slightly, curiousity fueling his movements. "What is it?" he asked, in the same secretive tone.

Shadow closed the distance between them and planted a gentle kiss on his cheek. With his face only inches from hers, she could see details about him that she hadn't really noticed before. His lashes were thick and dark, framing his eyes. The old saying that "eyes were windows to the soul" rose up in Shadow's thoughts. She could believe it, staring into his. The heat of his body seemed to be all around her, distracting her and making her heart patter nervously in her chest.
