Daman's mouth seemed to move to one side of his mouth. His eyes narrowed and he thought.
"Yeah... I don't suppose a tail's as easy to tie down as wings are." He thought for a moment. Snow pants could work... They were loose-fitting, so Alex's tail probably could fit inside of them without needing to be tied at all. A long coat could hide it, too, potentially. Still, he didn't want Tails to be uncomfortable.

"It's not" he said "I've tried. The most I can do is wrap it around my leg but not for too long" He remembered when he tried to tie his tail down, it hurt and was extremely uncomfortable, he discovered it needed to be free. "If we could figure it out, we could go" he said "as long as we're away from any cities."

"That wouldn't be too hard. I think I may be able to get one of the engineers to work with the illusionists and make something that could hide the tail from passerby. That is, assuming we would be permitted to go out into the world." Daman smirked at this last thought. He would think that most of his superiors would be glad that Tails wanted to get out of the base. If he learned to venture out a bit he might find some more confidence. Daman hoped that would happen.

"Really?" Tails asked. He was actually looking forward to getting away with Daman if he could. "I think it would be fun to go somewhere with snow" he said, a bright smile on his face.

"I'll see what I can do, all right?" he asked with a smile. "For now, how about we go for a swim?" His eyebrows lifted slightly, a challenge.

"Okay" Tails said. "Swimming sounds like a great idea" he said, sitting up. He got to his feet and brushed the dirt of his shirt. "Lets go" he said, already heading towards their spot.

Daman got up and followed him. With his hands in his pant pockets, he strolled through the familiar canyon passes, taking in the beauty around him. He had never imagined such cliffs before he came to live in Arizona. Now he wondered how he could have ever not known their color, their stateliness. Daman smiled, enjoying the casual day.

Tails finally reached the edge of their spot. He was starting to get uncomfortably hot under his bandage and the water looked so refreshing. He began to unwrap the bandage around his arm, avoiding looking at the fur growing there. He stripped down to his boxers before slipping into the water. It was a little cooler than usual but it was still refreshing. "You coming in?" he asked.

Daman glanced at Tails, realizing he'd been daydreaming.
"Yeah, yeah," he said. The mutant began shedding his layers of clothes until he was just wearing his pants. For some reason, water neutralized his powers, so he didn't have to worry about wearing layers and layers of clothing. Unstrapping the harness that held his wings in place, he let them go free and stretched them to their full length--an impressive twelve-and-a-half feet. Leaving his pile of black clothes behind him, Daman leaped into the water, letting the coolness wash over his warm skin. He peeked over the surface at Tails, his eyes narrowed. Then he flicked his wing over the surface, sending drops of water into his friend's face.

Tails was brought out of his thoughts by the feeling of water splashing over him. "Hey!" he said, shaking his hair out. He used his hands to splash back at Daman, smiling happily. He loved when he went swimming with him, it was always fun.

Daman ducked under the water's surface. He thrust down through the current with his wings, propelling himself up. He shot out of the river and up into the air, his wings spread out against the skies. Water dripped from his feathers and ran down his broad shoulders. With a few strokes he flew over Tails' head and landed on a rocky outcropping nearby, his wings tucked around his body like a bird's would be. He smirked at Tails from his perch, turning his head so that his dampened, darkened hair fell into his eyes.

Tails watched in awe as Daman flew from the water. He was always so amazed when his friend flew. He watched as he landed and frowned slightly. "What are you doing up there?" he asked.

"I'm stalking out my prey," Daman said with a playful smile. "Don't I look like a hawk ready to pluck you out of the water?" With a laugh the boy flapped his wings and sat back, enjoying the feeling of the sun on his wet skin.

"Don't hawks usualy go for mice?" he asked. "Last time I checked I was a cat not a mouse" he added, smiling up at Daman.

"We birds have been known to bite off more than we can chew, it's true," he said solemnly. Then he smiled again, "But they say cat-boy meat is the best of all." Then he burst out laughing and launched himself off the cliff. Spreading out his wings, he hovered just over the water's surface for a moment and then plunged in, using his wings to stop him just before he reached Tails. Then he popped up beside the boy, his hair hanging into his face. He reached out and poked his friend's head.
"Gotcha," he said.
