Tails couldn't wait to go outside. Instead of giving a verbal reply to Daman;s question, he grabbed his hand and started tugging him through the great hall. The threat of Daman's powers didn't even go through his mind.

Daman's eyes widened considerably when he felt the pressure of Tails's hand in his. Immediately he could feel his energy pooling into the skin of his hand, threatening to sear through his leather gloves. The mutant scientists had worked to make it as sturdy as possible, so that it wouldn't burn, but Daman didn't want to try that theory out on Tails. Even so, he couldn't exactly yank his hand away. Taking a deep breath, Daman concentrated on controlling his power. He hardly noticed where they were going; he was too preoccupied with not burning his friend.

Tails finally stopped walking when they reached the edge of the ravine. He looked out at the plantlife, smiling at the chatter coming from the birds. He then noticed Daman's tenseness and realized what he had done. He quickly dropped Daman's hand. "Sorry" he said quietly, lowering his head.

Daman's smile was a little too forced. He took off his leather glove and stretched his fingers, staring at the skin. It appeared to be reforming after turning red-black, the skin replacing itself. Even through gloves, his powers insisted on "protecting him". Daman wished he could control it, but no matter how hard he worked, he never could.
"That's okay," he said as his skin fully healed over the burn mark. "No harm done, see?" Daman couldn't say as much for his glove, which was pretty singed on the inside, despite the fact it was supposed to be fireproof. But not many things could withstand temperatures of such degree as his powers emitted.

Tails looked up at the sound of Daman's voice. He noticed the skin was not charred and let out a sigh of relief. "I know, but I feel bad for forgetting" he said.

Daman smiled at his friend.
"Don't feel bad. It doesn't hurt me at all, and as long as it doesn't hurt you, there's no harm done, right?" Daman didn't feel bad telling this little lie. The truth was that it hurt him a lot. Every time. But he didn't mind so much, as long as he could have his moment to touch another person. Even if it was a small thing, it meant a lot to him. And as long as no one else was hurt, he was willing to accept the pain.

"I guess you're right" Tails said. He would still feel bad no matter what Daman said, but he could tuck those feelings away with the others of pain and guilt.
His ears twitched as he picked up the chattering of squirrels nearby and his blue gaze drifted to that area. He saw two squirrels that seemed to be arguing over an acorn and he laughed at the sight.

Daman looked up at the squirrels. He smiled, enjoying the site. It wasn't every day he could just sit back and enjoy nature in its purest form. The sight reminded him of his old home. Nikki had once found an old book with all sorts of animals in it. She loved the squirrels. Daman tried not to tear up, but one telltale drip formed. He wiped it away quickly, not wanting to ruin Tails's outing.

Tails switched his focus to two bunnies chasing each other. He smiled at them and had an idea. "Would you play tag with me?" he asked Daman. He looked up at the older boy, his blue eyes sparking with hope.

Daman glanced over at Tails, feeling a bit doubtful.
"Well... I would love to, but you might get hurt." He held up his hand, giving his friend a rueful grin. He wished he could be a normal friend. He wished he could control his stupid power. But wishing never did anything for anyone. Except maybe in fairytales. And Daman's life was certainly no fairytale.

Tails expression drooped. "Yeah I guess you're right" he said glumly. He wished he had someone he could run around with and play tag with, but he wouldn't trade his friendship with Daman for anything.
With the idea of tag not possible, he dropped to the ground. Wincing when he accidentally sat on his tail.

Daman saw Tails's disappointment and it upset him. He hated his powers. He hated how he couldn't do anything normal, like play a simple game with his friend. Sighing, Daman looked around them, wondering what else they could do. He noticed a tree jutting out from the cliff on the opposite side of the river. Lodged in the branches was a small shape... a baseball? Daman smiled.
"I have an idea." He said, grinning at Tails. Daman slipped his jacket off, discarding it on a large boulder by the riverside. He undid the leather straps around his chest and waist that kept his wings strapped tightly to his body. Then Daman let the beautiful white feathers unfurl completely, showing an impressive wingspan that might have been near twelve feet across. He loved the feeling of the wind touching his feathers, and it definitely felt good to stretch his wings out. He crouched and then ran forward, leaping fearlessly over the river. The wind caught in his feathers and he gave a few powerful downstrokes. These lifted him higher towards the tree. Grabbing onto the baseball, he made a spiral around and landed on the ground next to his jacket.
"Want to play catch?" He asked, holding up the baseball.

Tails looked on in awe as Daman shed his jacket and freed his wings. He watched as his friend flew effortlessly towards the baseball lodged in the tree. Daman's powers always amazed him, and made him wish he had a useful power.
Tails grinned and jumped to his feet as Daman landed. "Yes!" he said excitedly.

Daman smiled as he allowed his wings to fold again. He couldn't help a little sigh as he strapped them down and replaced his black jacket. It was mostly to avoid bumping other people and burning them unintentionally. Still, he hated how hot he got in the dumb black jacket. Loosening the striped bandana from around his neck, he tossed the ball into the air and caught it easily, smiling at Tails.
"Ready?" He asked with a wink.

Tails watched as Daman strapped his wings down again. He knew his friend hated it, but couldn't risk hurting someone. He smiled at him as he threw the ball up and caught it. "Yup" he answered.
