Tails felt the shaking stop as Daman gripped him tighter. "Thanks to you" he replied. He felt like Daman needed to know the rest of the story so he took another breath before continuing. "It took me about two years before I could use my abilities, but they weren't what my father expected, so he tossed me aside. He kept me inside my cage for most of the day, I was only freed once a day for a small amount of time. I thought I would rot away in the cage when my 'father' didn't acknowledge my presence for a long time. I was forced to watch as countless kids were brought in and forced to undergo the same treatment as me, except they were successful, so my 'father' cared about them. I spent five years living like that until my twelth birthday. That was the day my father held a kinfe to my throat and tried to kill me." He felt the tears flowing uncontrollably now and the sobs beginning to wrack his small frame. He could feel the phantom press of the steel blade on his throat and pressed closer to Daman, hoping that he could make it go away.

Daman held Tails closely, stroking his back and staring down at the water around them. He didn't know what to say. What could he say? He had gone through a lot of pain. That pain had ignited his powers and had caused him to lose the ability to touch. But he had never imagined going through as much pain as his friend had.
"You are not alone anymore," he said finally, feeling choked by emotion, "You are my bratan. My little brother." Daman leaned back and looked into Tails's eyes, "And I love you, Tails. You have a home now. If you like, you can have more friends than just me. But know that I will always be here for you." He said.

Tails looked up at Daman, tears still rolling down his cheeks. These tears weren't of pain though, they were of happiness. "I love you too Daman" he said, his voice still quiet. "You're more than a friend though, you're my family now" he said "and I don't need anyone else as long as I have you." "If you want, you can call me Alex" he added, speaking his name for the first time in years.

Daman smiled. He ruffled the boy's hair gently, enjoying the moment they had together.
"Alright, Alex." He said. He was glad that Tails had told him his story. Now, it felt like there were no secrets between them. If he knew what having a brother felt like, he imagined it would not be much different than the way he felt now.

Tails smiled at Daman's use of his real name. He had a feeling that this was what family was supposed to feel like, he couldn't really remember anything before the pain. "So what did you want to do now?" he asked.

Daman smiled and leaned back, floating on the water a little ways. Then he dipped his head under and burst out of the water, shaking his head so that his hair whipped around his forehead. He grinned at Alex and stretched his wings out across the water.
"I dunno," he said casually, "What do you want to do?"

Alex smiled as his friend relaxed back into the water. He brought his hand to his face, wiping off the droplets of water that had hit his face. "Don't know, thats why I was asking you" he replied with a small laugh.

Daman looked up into the sky, sighing softly. What he really wanted to do was go for a fly. But that wasn't likely to happen anytime soon, especially with the hunters looking out for mutants in the canyons.
"Why don't we head on up to the game room?" He suggested.

Alex thought about the suggestion. He didn't really like going to the Game Room there was always other mutants trying to get him to play with them. He also heard about an incident with one of the older mutants who had used his powers to free up the air hockey table. However, he was going with Daman and he trusted him to protect him. "Okay, sounds like fun" he replied.

Daman smiled.
"Okay. I know a nice little corner where no one usually goes. We can play the pool table if you like. Or there's a pinball machine." He said, his eyebrows rising slightly.

Alex smiled at Daman, liking how he mentioned going to the normally empty corner. He thought about what he wanted to play, pinball was fun but pool they could play together. "Pool sounds good" he replied.

Daman smiled.
"Okay, cool." He said. He climbed out of the water, pulling his shirt over his head. He began to strap himself in, sighing as he felt his wings constrict to his shoulders again. When he'd finished, he turned to Tails and smiled, slipping his gloves back on.
"Alrighty, let's go then." He said.
