Daman smiled. He hadn't thrown a ball in a while, but the memory of playing catch with his friends in the orphanage seemed to return, guiding his arm as he drew it back slightly and then released the ball, watching as it flew in a graceful, easy arc towards Tails.

Tails watched as the ball flew towards him. He caught it easily, smiling. He threw it back towards Daman.

Daman caught the ball in his hand. It was strange to feel the familiar round shape again, tucked so comfortably into his fist. He drew his arm back and let it fly again, watching it with dark eyes filled with memories. They were happy memories, but they left him feeling a little melancholy.

Tails caught the ball again with ease. He was glad that Daman could at least play catch with him. He tossed the ball back, noticing it going slightly off course. "So what did you want to do after this?" he asked.

Daman had to leap to catch the ball, but either his powers or his natural ability made him pretty good at those sorts of things. He smiled as he felt his hand close around the ball, and enjoyed the satisfying crunch of his feet hitting the ground again. Daman paused for a moment, letting his senses stretch out across the canyon. He could hear the echo of a hawk's screech some two miles away as it dove to catch a sprinting hare. He could hear a mountain lion growling in its sleep in a cave. If he concentrated, Daman could even hear the hum of tourists peering out over the canyons, unaware of the civilization of mutants that lived under their noses. Tails's question brought him back to the present place and time.
"Hmm? Oh, um... Whatever you like. I'm free for the rest of the day." Daman smiled as he gently tossed the ball back towards his friend.

Tails watched as his friend lept for the ball and landed, seemingly distracted. He felt bad for breaking Daman out of whatever thoughts he was lost in. Tails caught the ball before tossing it back to his friend. "Well I want to know what you wanna do" he said.

Daman tipped his head to the side slightly.
"Well," he mused, "We could go to the game room... or go for a swim..." He glanced at the river and wondered how cold the water would be. It was warm enough out where he didn't think he would mind if it were really cold. But then, if Tails was part cat, would he like to swim? Daman had to wonder. Daman caught the baseball and then tossed it gently back to his friend, a bit distracted by his thoughts.

Tails thought about the suggestions. "Swimming might be fun" he said "I've never been before." He caught the ball and held it for a moment and looked over to the river. He was curious as to what swimming would be like. He looked back to Daman before throwing the ball back.

Daman caught the ball and smiled.
"I like it personally. It's very refreshing. There's a nice place just downstream if you want to give it a try." Pausing for a moment, Daman couldn't help but smile at the memory of his first time swimming. He'd nearly drowned when one of the meaner orphan kids had shoved him into the pond. Nikki had fished him out and straightened his clothes. "You look so horrible!" She'd laughed.
Daman threw the ball back, still grinning.

"Okay, sounds great" Tails said, grinning. He caught the ball as it flew towards him before tossing it back. He was really excited to go swimming and trusted that Daman wouldn't let anything happen to him.

Daman smiled and caught the ball again.
"Well, let me know when you want to go." He said cheerfully, tossing the ball back through the air. Part of him didn't really understand what was so comforting and fun in the act of tossing an object back and forth. But it was.

Tails lept as the ball almost went over his head. He caught it and held it as he landed. "Could we go now?" he asked. He was eager to try swimming and didn't want to wait any longer.

Daman smiled.
"Yeah, sure, bratan." He said, not minding the chance to stretch his wings a bit more and get a bit wet while doing it. Making his way towards his friend, he gestured downstream.
"Follow me, then."

Tails smiled brightly. "Okay" he said excitedly. He began following Daman, imagining what swimming would be like. He hoped that he wouldn't end up getting injured, he didn't want to make Daman feel bad.

Daman climbed up a pretty shallow rise and then through a few narrow tunnels. He'd taken this path many times before. River, another teenage mutant, had been the first to show him when he'd first arrived. Finally the two emerged into a little clearing. Some rocks blocked part of the river, making it run slower and more shallow than was usual. It was the perfect place to learn how to swim. Daman began taking off his jacket again. It was always faster to remove it, so he had it and his shirt off in about ten seconds. Slipping off his shoes, Daman turned and smiled at Tails.
"I'll wear my gloves, just in case." He said, holding up his hands and wiggling his fingers. He wished someone else was there. That would make him feel more comfortable teaching Tails to swim. But at least it was too shallow there to be concerned with the boy drowning.
